Tuguegarao City, the “Premier Ibanag City” and home of the AFI Festival, hosted the Cagayan Valley Regional Tourism Incorporated General Assembly last September 15-16, 2016.
The convention gathered hundreds of tourism officers, local government officials, legislators and tourism advocates from Cagayan Valley to discuss the booming tourism industry of region.
Being an agricultural region, this year’s theme was “In Focus: Agri-Tourism”, the assembly was aimed at developing and promoting agri-tourism.
Agri-tourism is basically where agriculture and tourism intersect, as farms invite the public into their property to experience the outdoors, the leisure pace, and the healthy and nutritious produce that is only possible when it is fresh picked at the peak of perfection.
It is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry, includes visits to working farms, orchards, ranches and agricultural industries. Agri-destinations offer a huge variety of entertainment, education, relaxation, outdoor adventures, shopping and dining experiences.
The City Government of Tuguegarao welcomed the delegates by hosting a welcome dinner and at the same time showcasing the tourism video of the city.
A guided tour was also held showcasing the best tourism destinations and practices in the province of Cagayan like a pilgrimage in the Basilica Minore of Piat, a nature adventure and eco-tourism tour in Callao Caves, Peñablanca and a culture and heritage tour in century-old churches in the city of Tuguegarao.
The Cagayan Valley Regional Tourism Inc. is a regional association of tourism officers and tourism advocates coming from both the public and private sectors to boost the tourism potential in the region as well as to help professionalize frontline visitor service in local governments, to better the service of tourism providers and to create a forum for collaboration and advocacy.
