In line with the celebration of the National Clean Up Month for the month of September, a National Clean Up day was conducted all over the country. Massive clean up activities were held all over the country organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in collaboration with local government units, non-government organizations, academe and the private sector.
The City Environment and Natural Resources spearheaded in the clean up of some barangays particularly Centro 9, Balzain East and West and Caritan Sur last September 16-17, 2016. The DENR-Environmental Management Bureau’s (EMB) also participated in the said activity.
CENR Officer Engr. Catherine Taguiam said that such activity aims to boots the spirit of volunterism and to encourage active citizenship by collectively engaging various groups and individuals to help clean the surroundings that will help address the city’s solid waste problem.
“We need to put an end on the continued littering and dumping of waste that greatly affects the city. In order for us to live in a clean and healthy environment, we need to work together, inculcate discipline within ourselves and be vigilant on violations affecting our surroundings,” Taguiam said.
The National Clean Up day is being observed every third Saturday of September, coinciding with the International Coastal Cleanup Weekend as part of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. #
